Jo\u00e3o I and the king ordered that the soldiers from Guimar\u00e3es and Barcelos fight off the invaders, however when the soldiers from Barcelos saw the invader force they start running in retreat and therefore the Guimar\u00e3es soldiers had to divide in two fronts and that\u2019s why it\u00b4s called the statue of the 2 faces because it\u00b4s a reference to the fact the soldiers of Guimar\u00e3es fought in 2 sides.
