Located in the city of Guimar\u00e3es, in the north of the country, it is often referred to as the \u201cCradle of the Nation\u201d, as it is linked to the foundation of Portugal and the childhood of Afonso Henriques, the first Portuguese king.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83c\udff0 <strong>Castle History<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Built in the 10th century by order of Countess Mumadona Dias to defend the territory against Moorish and Norman attacks.<\/li>\n<li>In the 12th century, it was enlarged by Henry of Burgundy, father of Afonso Henriques.<\/li>\n<li>The castle played a crucial role in the Battle of S\u00e3o Mamede (1128), where Afonso Henriques consolidated his power against his mother, D.
